TARANTELLA HELPS BANKSERV SPEED WEB-BASED SERVICES TO CUSTOMERS
BankServ Cuts Costs, Completes Rollout Faster with Tarantella
January 16, 2001 - SANTA CRUZ, CA — Tarantella, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of The Santa Cruz Operation, Inc. (Nasdaq: SCOC), today announced that BankServ chose Tarantella Enterprise web-enabling software to deploy its proprietary Global Funds Exchange (GFX) wire transfer service to the banking community. BankServ is one of the leading payment services providers in the U.S. Tarantella Enterprise software enables BankServ to provide its financial institution customers with web access to its payment processing solution, GFX, in record time, without having to rewrite its existing applications, and at a far lower cost than originally anticipated.
"The web is changing the way the banking industry operates, and the trend is to offer more web-based services," said Mike Dionne, vice president and general manager at BankServ. "Tarantella software allows us to more quickly provide our clients with web-based cash management services. We had planned to re-write our GFX applications in order to web enable them, but with the Tarantella Enterprise software we are realizing cost savings of about 50 - 75% in creating this web-based service, and the project is expected to be completed about nine months faster than anticipated."
"We're delighted with the success of Tarantella Enterprise software at BankServ," said Wayne Bergland, vice president North American Sales, Tarantella, Inc. "This is yet another example of how Tarantella software can enable the banking industry to realize the potential of their investment and move rapidly and efficiently into the Internet economy."
BankServ's Challenge
BankServ had an immediate need to rapidly deploy its GFX services to the banking community. The ability to rapidly deploy multi-platform applications to any client with a browser, without any client installation, was key to BankServ's decision to choose Tarantella Enterprise software. Now, BankServ can offer more web-based services to its customers, which helps sharpen the company's competitive edge.

With Tarantella software, no application code needs to be rewritten, and no extra application software is installed on users' client devices.
